A work-at-home schemeis a get-rich-quick scamin which a victim is lured by an offer to be employed at home, very often doing some simple task in a minimal amount of time with a large amount of income that far exceeds the market rate for the type of work.

Common work-at-home schemes include envelope stuffing, product assembly or craft work, rebate processing and medical billing. Under the envelope scheme, victims responding to an ad are told to pay a small fee to learn how to earn money stuffing envelopes.

Work-home-schemes are one of the oldest types of consumer fraud. Most advertisements sound very attractive offering high earnings and short hours with little or no experience necessary. The Attorney General cautions that although some of these companies are legitimate, most are out to take your money.
